  JetStream colour is similar to the exterior colour of the house.

Our picket fence has finally been completed!  Thank you to my follow bloggers. Your comments, on the front fence post, persuaded me to go the picket. The fence was low priority on the to do list, but now the fence is complete it has made the biggest impact on the renovation. The picket fence is a great first impression.

This week, the goal is to paint the front path. The colour chosen is Resene SilverChalice – I think. 

I have tested a sand stone colour & a charcoal, both not quite right. 

Hopefully the SilverChalice might be okay. 

The rainbow shower trees have loads of new growth, these trees will eventually provide much needed shade in the front garden.

The picket fence is nearly complete, just a couple of corrections were the pattern went wrong [see if you can spot the mistake]. The gates are being mtm.

Just playing the waiting game for the carpenter to return.

 Out the back the land is very dry, this year the forecast is for the rains to begin in November. Hopefully there will not be as much rain as last year.

What a difference 6months makes! The trees planted on the nature strip prior to Cyclone Yasi & were then flatten during Yasi are thriving and have tripled in size.

We have decided to repair the existing path rather than go to the expense of digging up & starting again. The cracks have been cut out and the holes refilled with new cement. In about 4weeks we will paint the path. Any suggestions on a colour?

Finally a weekend free to work in the garden. The wire fence has been removed & the carpenter is due on Monday to build a picket fence.

The front yard to do or not to do list. On top of the list is the front fence.

1. Do we add a white picket fence or do we makeover the existing wire fencing?

The original plan was to plant new plantings of hibiscus & wait for the plants to catch up with the existing hibiscus hedges.

and add new wire gates for the pathway & driveway. I love this gate but it is too fancy for our house.

Project Garden

In between the Townsville Cup, kids swimming lessons, tennis lessons and other commitments this weekend, we will be working in garden planting the garden beds surrounding the house....below is a little inspiration.

Winter in the tropics

Before the next wet season we need to work out what we are doing with our front garden path which is a solid cement path - extremely practical in the wet season. However, the path has lots of cracks and needs replacing. For a simple look, I am leaning towards using large pavers soften with turf. We also need to tidy up the area in front of the veranda. Any suggestions?

We are also not sure what we will do with the tiles on the veranda - we haven't thought too much about changing the tiles - in the too hard basket.

Planting of the Hawaiin Rainbow Shower Trees 

The beginnings

This weekend our Rainbow Shower Trees arrived from Bundaberg. The trees arrived along with the consignment of trees for the Townsville City Council Flinder's Street Mall redevelopment.

We planted the trees on either side of the path leading to the front door. In a few years time the trees should meet and form a canopy providing much needed shade in Summer. The trees are quite flexible and don't tend to snap in cyclonic winds...cross fingers.

 Work on the garden has finally commenced. Some trees to be ordered from a nursery in Bundaberg. The same type of trees that seem to have stood up well during cyclone Yasi. Next weekend more and more soil and a lot more gardening!

Very quick update!

The builders started on the start date, which was great.

The demolishing of the laundry, kitchen and sun-room has been completed and all the stump holes have been dug, with only one minor hiccup when the sewage pipe was damaged - but don't worry it happens all the time!
